On January 20, 2025, our Asset Company Aeroporti di Roma inaugurated the new Solar Farm, the largest self-consumption photovoltaic plant at a European airport, and one of the largest globally within an airport boundary, located along the east side of Runway 3 at Rome Fiumicino Airport.
The new infrastructure, designed by Aeroporti di Roma and built by Enel in collaboration with Circet, extends for almost 2.5 km and consists of approximately 55,000 monocrystalline silicon panels. With a power of 22 MWp, it will enable the airport to produce more than 30 million kWh of electricity annually. This is a significant first step that will lead the airport to have an installed capacity of 60 MWp within the next five years, with the installation of additional farms within the current airport perimeter. This capacity is sufficient to meet the annual energy needs of 30,000 Italian families for an entire year or, translated into electric cars, to fully charge over one million vehicles.
The Solar Farm, which will help reduce the airport's CO2 emissions by over 11,000 tons each year, represents one of the most ambitious initiatives in ADR's energy transition and decarbonization path, with the goal of achieving Net Zero Carbon by 2030, twenty years ahead of the industry target.
